5 Door to Door Sales Books that Helped Me Double My Income
What is the key difference between the door-to-door sales person who experiences the pure bliss of driving home after a successful summer of achieving their goals and the ones who only come home with nothing but excuses?
Not their natural talent. Their preparation.
If you want to be in the top 1%, then you need to prepare like the top 1%.
Do you think professional athletes show up to their games not knowing their plays, not studying film on the other team, and not having practiced all week? Of course not! If they did, they wouldn’t be pros! They would be watching in the bleachers like everyone else.
As a door-to-door sales person, you can achieve remarkable success by treating your work the same way a professional athlete treats theirs. And one of the best ways to take a professional approach to your preparation is by reading the right books.
Spend time every day reading the best books and you will find yourself miles ahead of the competition.
Here are the 5 books that had the biggest impact on me during my D2D sales career.
1. Stillness is the Key
by Ryan Holiday
In the hustle and bustle of door-to-door sales, maintaining inner calm is crucial. Ryan Holiday's "Stillness is the Key" teaches the art of finding tranquility amidst chaos. It's a treasure trove of wisdom on self-control, focus, and resilience. Learn to stay composed under pressure and make better decisions that can lead to closing more deals.
You won’t find specific sales tips and tricks in this book but getting your mindset right so you show up as the best version of yourself on the doors is more important than any sales tactic you might learn.
During my best summer, I read this book every morning before hitting the doors.
2. D2D Millionaire
by Lenny Gray
Lenny Gray's "D2D Millionaire" is a masterpiece tailored specifically for door-to-door salesmen. Gray shares his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a millionaire in this field. His strategies, stories, and practical tips will inspire you and provide actionable insights on how to achieve financial success in door-to-door sales.
Lenny was in the pest control field so this book is specifically applicable to pest control sales people but all door-to-door reps will benefit.
I would especially recommend this book for rookies in the D2D space and it’s well worth the yearly read for sales vets to make sure you don’t get forget the basics or if you find yourself stuck in a rut.
3. Greatest Salesman in the World
by Og Mandino
Og Mandino's classic, "The Greatest Salesman in the World," is an essential read for anyone looking to master the art of persuasion. Through the story of Hafid, the greatest salesman, Mandino imparts timeless lessons on perseverance, discipline, and the power of a positive mindset. This book is a blueprint for becoming a top-notch salesman.
This is a great short book that you can easily read over a weekend. This book had the greatest impact on me during my rookie year that helped me to elevate the way I saw salespeople and myself
Like Stillness is the Key, I read this book every morning before I sold..
4. Way of the Wolf
by Jordan Belfort
Jordan Belfort, the real-life "Wolf of Wall Street," knows a thing or two about sales. In "The Way of the Wolf," he shares his sales secrets and techniques that helped him achieve extraordinary success. From the "Straight Line Selling" method to mastering persuasion, this book is your ticket to boosting your sales figures.
This was the first actual sales book that I ever read and some of my biggest takeaways were about the process and word tracks for overcoming objections, tonality, mirroring, body language, and your overall presence especially during the introduction.
5. Grit
by Angela Duckworth
Angela Duckworth's "Grit" delves into the psychology of success. She argues that passion and perseverance are more important than talent when it comes to achieving your goals. This book will teach you how to cultivate grit, which is an indispensable quality for a door-to-door salesman facing daily challenges and rejections.
In Grit, you won’t find specific sales tactics as you’ll find in Way of the Wolf but all top reps agree that its your mindset, your work ethic and your grit that matters way more than the soft skills.
